Man damages painting with hammer

Samuel Johnson by Sir Joshua Reynolds was attacked with a hammer

On Wednesday 8th August a homeless man has been accused of causing criminal damage to a painting worth 1.7 million pounds on display in the National Portrait Gallery in London.

The painting that was said to have been hit with a hammer several times was a portrait of Samuel Johnson by Sir Joshua Reynolds.

The man will appear in court on Friday to face charges of criminal damage, and possessing a hammer with intent on causing criminal damage
